Pictures from previous session

Mathias sent me these pictures he took with his cellphone last time we went sailing together.
August disappeared pretty fast this year, but we are sailing this coming weekend if there is wind and not too much rain.

Sailing on Sunday!

It looks like the weather finally is going to smile at us this coming weekend.
After a very poor August (weather wise) it is finally looking better.
I plan to sail on Sunday morning. Give me a call if you want to join me.

I'm waiting for pictures from Mathias, who was the only brave soul who sailed this past weekend. I was too busy fixing a hole in our yard house...

Quick update

Well, The weather has not been all that great the past week and a half.
It looks like it is getting better.
My buddy Pete thinks I'm slacking off not updating the blog.
This one is for him.

We moved our daughter to Linköping University today. A big day for our family and a big change for her.
I have already called her, but she said she was fine...

Sailing maybe on Saturday or Sunday. Johan is out of town, but Mathias said he was eager to sail. Posting a picture from a previous session.

Congratulations to Mathias SWE319 who got a baby daughter yesterday!

Posting a picture of Mathias and his older daughter Tilda sailing last Thursday.
Mathias got another baby daughter yesterday. All of us in the Nyköping fleet of 2.4mR's sends our congratulations to Anna and Mathias!

Sailing tonight

Johan and Blogmaster sailed in beautiful wind and warm weather tonight.
Johan is showing great boat speed with his new SWE393 (SWE429 in his sails).

We plan to sail again before the weekend to beat the cold front they claim is due on Saturday.

SWE393 showing great performance for it's first time out!

We sailed in beautiful weather and a nice sea breeze tonight. Johan did very well for it being his first time out in SWE393 (with wind). He sailed with borrowed sails, but showed impressive boat speed despite the sails not being of the latest design.

Temps around 27 degrees (80F) and clear blue skies. Swedish summer at it's best in other words. Sunday looks like the next time we will sail.

Sailing tomorrow Thursday! Torsdagssegling imorgon!

We will meet at the marina around 16:00 tomorrow Thursday the 24 of July.

Johan, Mathias, Conny and Blogmaster are going to sail.
Hopefully we will get Lennart going after the vacation and with his house remodeling done. I have a pretty big remodeling of my garage/ workshop to deal with this summer. This is definitely cutting back on my sailing time. But tomorrow and Sunday it looks like sailing.

Summer video

Posting a video clip from Sunday afternoon.
An over strained arm prohibits Blogmaster from sailing at the moment.
Sunny and a nice breeze today, but sailing is going to have to wait until the arm has healed.

Drifting

Johan finally got his SWE393 "Doris" in the water yesterday July 1st. The boat seams light and looks like a brand new boat. Johan looked very happy despite the lack of wind.

Sailing is planned for Friday July 4th, Independence day in USA.

Mathias and blogmaster took the opportunity (Mathias did most of the work) to cut the grass around our launch crane. We might have to do this one more time this summer, but for now it looks 100% better.

SWE393!

Johan and Conny took their boats to the marina last night. Johan is really close make the maiden voyage in his beautifully restored SWE393.

Finally Sailing!

Mathias and blogmaster finally got to sail on Sunday. Water level was up a little from last week, even if we did get some mud on our keels when launching our boats.
Wind picked up and stood pretty strong by the time we finished our practice.
Mathias and SWE319 showed much improved speed in breezier conditions due to 14kg added to his keel.

Still not enough water

I went down to the marina today, just to realize there is still no way we can launch our boats until the water comes back. The low pressure moving in will hopefully help bring water levels up. Heavy winds today in excess of 10m/s or about 20 knots. It is still breezy at 11:00PM.

Sweden beat defending European Soccer Champions Greece today in the first game for both teams with 2-0. To help celebrate this I post a Swedish flag!

No water

Just add water is what they usually say in the commercials...
Right now we are experiencing 40cm or nearly 16 inches below normal water levels in the Baltic. Mathias and blogmaster installed the electric telfer on our crane today, but we have very small hopes that we will be able to launch our boats any time soon. Very sad news looking at absolutely perfect weather conditions. Clear blue sky and 28 deg C or 82 degrees F. Since we are not allowed to dig in the mud due to environmental reasons, our only option is to wait for the water to come back.

SWE 393 is sailing on Sunday

Johan is almost finished with SWE 393 "Doris" and will be sailing on Sunday!
SWE 429 and SWE 319 are also planning to sail. Hopefully Conny with SWE 279 will also attend. Lennart SWE 177 is still working on his house and will not sail.

Oslo Opera house

Posting a picture of the beautiful new Opera house in Oslo. I agree with Arne, it would be really cool to race our 2.4mR just outside the Opera house with a big crowd.
SWE 429 is finally in the marina, and ready to go. Sailing is definately planned for the coming weekend.

Peter V Andersson

Peter does the V for victory sign on Saturday night in Strängnäs. Very light conditions, not what Peter and his Stradivarie does best.

Johan is getting closer to getting his boat ready to sail.
Hopefully he is only 2 weeks away from test sailing his SWE383.

SWE429 will hopefully sail on Saturday or Sunday.
Blogmaster has been busy working on home improvement projects for the past week and a half.

SWE429 resting in Strängnäs

SWE429 at the dock on Saturday night.
She is a good boat, she just needs her skipper to steer her in the right direction...

Report from the race in Strängnäs

We raced for two days in very light wind conditions.
Nice weather, but like said, very light winds.
The organizers did a fantastic job with the arrangement.
Posting a picture of Peter Norlin, the designer of the Norlin Mark III boat.

Blogmaster ended up 27 out of 38 boats. I had higher ambitions, but had at least a couple of races when it "felt" like in the old days. The 2.4mR is a very complicated boat to sail really fast and I just need to spend more time practicing.

Mathias Gustafsson, a buddy from Nyköping and now residing in Strängnäs, did very well and ended up in 15th place in a borrowed boat! Great job!

SWE393

Johan is getting closer with his SWE393.

This picture is from yesterday afternoon.

WASH AND GO

Wash and polish tonight of SWE429 Satir.
Wax tomorrow night and then turned back on it´s keel on Wednesday.

Sailing might happen on Saturday if we can get to our launch crane.

Petrus will go ahead and buy the old Söderström boats from our fleet to start a new fleet in Tranås. He is planing to pick the boats up on Wednesday or Thursday.

Saturday, April 19, 2008

Finally!

Last night I went to pick up my 2.4mR SWE429 "Satir" from storage. It feels great to play with the boat after the winter break. I started with some updates and repairs today and will hopefully get it all done tomorrow.

Johan is getting closer to completion of his SWE393. Blogmaster plans a visit to see how he is doing tomorrow Sunday.

Juan to design and build new 2.4mR!

April 1:st:

After Juan's involvement in the Ericsson Racing team, and the design job now nearing completion on the Ericsson 4 boat, Juan looks for a new bigger challenge.

Secure sources tells blogmaster that a syndicate has been formed involving Juan for a new 2.4mR design to be built here in Nyköping. I have no more news at this point, but wanted to share this ground breaking information with you.

Happy Easter!

The Nyköping fleet wishes all our readers a Happy Easter!

Soon we will be sailing, even if we are currently experiencing a set back in the weather here in Sweden. It is colder now than what we have had all winter...

Over 10000 visitors!!!

Today we broke through 10000 visitors/hits on our blog site.
Blogmaster is happy about this and will try to keep up the work on servicing this blog.

The Nyköping fleet is planning a PUB evening within the next two weeks. Please let blogmaster know which evenings works best for you.

Posting a picture of "Pojkbåten" Juni that my brother bought two weeks ago.
While working on his 6mR SWE 31 "Silvervingen" he will sail this little beauty this coming summer. Pojkbåt means a boy´s boat in English. Silvervingen means Silver wing in English. That might have been easy for you English speakers to figure out without me telling you...

Posting a sailing picture from last year. My brother Fredrik took this pictures of SWE429.

We are closing in on 10000 hits on our blog site and that is a lot of fun. It is blogmaster´s intention to keep posting sailing pictures and gossip from the Nyköping fleet.

Since someone posted a comment that linked to a virus site here on our blog, blogmaster have changed the settings for comments. Now all comments have to be approved by blogmaster. I'm sorry to have to do this, but I don't want anyone of our readers to get viruses because they tried to read the comments.

The early years part four

In our series the early years, the final page of the 1983/84 flyer.
The Odd 1:5 is slightly smaller and lighter than the later Norlin and Malmsten boats.
Something that shows especially in heavier wind conditions.
I remember the summer of 1983 with great joy. I sailed the Odd 1:5 as ofter as I could. Many times I spent 6-7 hours in the boat per day and enjoyed every minute of it.

The early years part three

Posting another picture from the early years of 2.4mR/Mini12 sailing. Blogmaster is visible in S 36 on port tack. This picture is taken on "Segelbåtens dag" sailboat day in Stockholm, September 15th 1983. I´m not 100% sure on the date, my memory might not be correct on that. September 1983 I´m pretty sure is correct. Also notice the spinnaker sailing with a 2.4mR/Mini12.

The early years part two

This is part two in our flashback to the early eighties.

Odd´s 1:5- A twelve in scale 1:5

Unsinkable

Fast

One design for everyone

Internal ballast- offcourse

Teaches you everything

The early years

It took me quite some time to see that Odd Lindqvist had posted a reply on our blogsite. In his honor, I have scanned some pictures from a advertising flyer made after the race in Stockholm, September 1983. I have scanned the entire newsletter and will post more pictures, check back in later for more goodies.

Blogmaster plans to participate in the training camp and the race in Strängnäs in May.

Still no ice in Nyköping

The winter so far is very mild here in Sweden. No sign of ice or snow right now.
It is still too early to say spring, but the weather really feels like it.
No news to report from the Nyköping fleet. Lennart and blogmaster took a walk Sunday as part of our pre-season training program...
We plan to be in shape when the season starts...

Posting a picture from 2006 when Henrik Jonsson visited us here in Nyköping.
We sailed to the yacht clubs island and had lunch on the docks.

Bow heavy...

Sunshine in Nyöping today Monday the 4th of February. Not much news to report from the 2.4mR fleet in Nyköping this week. Johan is sanding and preparing the cockpit on SWE393 for a white coat of paint. SWE429 will recieve som TLC come closer to spring. Still no ice in Nyköping and we could sail if we could get to our crane. Next year we hope to have a more dedicated space around our crane, allowing us a longer season.

I'm posting a couple of pictures for you all to comment on...

6mR Silvervingen SWE31

Today blogmaster trained as a riveter while helping brother Fredrik with his project.
See attached pictures of the beautiful 1939 Tore Holm design.

Restoration of 6mR SWE31 Silvervingen

Posting a picture of newly made frames drying after varnishing.
My brother Fredrik´s project is coming along and I will post new pictures soon showing the frames installed in the hull.

Sailing video

The video shows Blogmaster and SWE429 during the first sail in Nyköping in May 2006.
Mathias shot this film with his digital camera.

Johan and Blogmaster will do some more work on SWE393 this weekend.
Hopefully completing the installation of the bilge pump.

SWE393 getting closer to completion

Johan and blogmaster worked on SWE393 Saturday morning. We made a bracket for the bilge pump along a couple of other things. Johans boat is coming along fine and there is no doubt he will be sailing this coming season. Today Sunday, Lennart and blogmaster went for a walk to visit with Johan and his SWE393. See attached picture.
This brings it to a total of 5 Norlin Mark III boats in our fleet for the 2008 season.

History lesson

Blogmaster´s first encounter with the 2.4mR or Mini12 as it was called back in the day was in 1983 sailing the Odd Lindqvist 1:5. This is a picture from 1987 showing a happy Blogmaster fresh out of school.
I will dig up some more pictures of the Odd 1:5 and post on our website. The boat in the picture is still residing in Nyköping, but might be on it´s way to Tranås where it will be serving as a rental boat.

Happy New Year!

The 2.4mR Fleet in Nyköping wishes everyone a Happy New Sailing Year 2008!
Our mission for 2008 will be to participate more in national races.

Blogmaster and Conny went and said hello to SWE279 and SWE429 today. SWE429 will be upgraded with a new deck support along other things for the 2008 season. I will post pictures/drawings of the upgrades as the project progresses.

December in Nyköping

Blogmaster took a walk today in an unusually warm December Saturday in Nyköping, Sweden.
The ice had pretty much disappeared at our launch crane. If the weather stays like this we will be able to start the season early 2008. I would love to go to Gothenburg to sail the New Years day race. I have not ruled it out yet, but will call Calle no later than Monday if it will happen.

Global warming

While Christmas shopping today I walked to the new Ice-skating rink they just opened on main-street in our town. When I was a kid we used to skate on lakes and very often on the baltic. A couple of places in town were you could skate on naturally frozen ice.
This ice skating rink of 2007 is made out of plastic...

Sunday walk

Blogmaster took a walk Sunday and enjoyed the nice weather. Our launch crane looked very lonely down by the marina. The weather was definitely sailing weather Sunday, but SWE429 is resting in the boat shed.
